Storylines Good Enough To Eat! [ The
Idea Bank For Storywriters ] Hello everyone. I love to write (as many of you already know). I'm always writing, whether it's a letter to a friend, a story, a poem, or even an e-mail. I've decided to create this page for the aspiring writers out there, or just those who love to write! I'm going to use this page to give some storyline ideas that you can use to kick-start your creative abilities. By the way, if you use any of these ideas and write a poem, a song, a story, etc., I would LOVE to read it. Feel free to send them to me. You will find my e-mail address on the Contact Me subpage. Thanks and happy writing! - Mary Shaw - |

Suggested Title: Loveless
LoveIdea: In a land inhabited by fairies, anything is possible, except finding true love. The fairies are happy, productive, friendly and harmonious, however they all feel a need to love and be loved. Whenever they try to show the emotions associated with love, they are severely punished by the Fairy Queen, Eskira. The Fairy Queen was the first to inhabit the land and so, set the rules for all who fell under her rule. She is an unmistakably kind fairy, however, because of a heartache that never healed long ago, she cast a spell that made fairies and elves unable to experience love. She thinks that she's doing them all a favour by sparing them the hurt she experienced, but little does she know the importance of love. Of course the fairies complain and eventually, revolt against her. This causes all the opposite of love: anger, hatred, disgust, envy, greed, hedonism, etc. The Fairy Queen realizes that a world without love is ugly, dangerous and unpleasant, so she casts a spell that reverses her previous one. The fairies and elves learn to love and Queen Eskira, though never finding a soulmate, gains the respect and love of her followers. |
Suggested Title: Dreams
Come TrueIdea: Valerie, a 19-year-old girl, begins to notice that she's been having a lot of dreams each night. She's not sure what it is (if it is the midnight snacks or the lack of sleep that's causing the dreams). They are usually bizarre, however some are frightening and cause her to wake up in a sweat. A few weeks go by when she notices peculiar article in the newspaper. It seems strikingly similar to one of her dreams. She shrugs it off and just believes it to be a coincidence, but is it really or are there other forces at play here? Week after week, she is astounded and full of anxiety every time she picks up the newspaper. Usually the first few sections correspond to a dream she had the night before. It's almost as though she's become psychic, however, Valerie was never one to believe in such entertainment. Even though she's denying her unusual abilities, deep down inside, she's insecure, scared and full of guilt. Even though Valerie has nothing to do with all the horrendous things in the articles she reads, she somehow feels responsible for causing all the suffering in the world. Eventually, the guilt is so severe that she cannot take it anymore. She finally confides in her parents, however, they believe that it's just a strange coincidence and that their daughter is being utterly ridiculous. Frustrated and nervous, Valerie seeks professional help from a psychologist, as she seems to be unable to function properly and finds herself worrying and dreading the next day. This does a lot of good for her, with respect to dealing with her guilt issues, however, the dreams continue to haunt her. When she's 20-years-old, her psychic abilities persist and lead her towards a new way of seeing the world. She now has the power of prediction. How will this change her perspective? How will she cope with all this? Will this power ever go away? Does Valerie want it to disappear, or will she thrive on it? |
Suggested Title: The Mind's
EyeIdea: We all know someone like Justin. As a young child, he had a troubled childhood, was lonely and never had more than a handful of friends. His self-esteem drops and he becomes known as the loner of the school. Then, the few friends that he made, become curious about drugs. Justin is also curious and is influenced by his friends. It is only a few months later that Justin becomes a hardcore drug addict. He no longer cares about what the next day brings, as long as he can live for the moment. He lives on momentary thrills, sensation-seeking and shoplifting. Then, a new girl comes to school. Her name is Carmina. Carmina is the exact opposite of Justin, it seems, for she was a bookworm, played chess and joined the music band - things that Justin would not ever be described doing or thinking about. Slowly as Justin watches her from a distance, he realizes that Carmina isn't the squeaky clean girl he thought she was. He discovers that Carmina had a rough childhood and was sent from foster home to foster home. She was abused by her alcoholic foster mother and was put down by almost everyone at the school, but through it all, Carmina seemed to achieve high marks. She was smart, sweet and funny. No one saw past her short stringy hair, her freckles or her crooked nose, except Justin and the teachers. To him, Carmina was smart, witty and even pretty. He thought that her quirks were cute and he had never known anyone who was strong enough to overcome all the life obstacles that she did. |
