// Verses From The Soul \\

Look into YOUR soul. What do you see?

I strongly believe that one way to look into a person's soul is by reading their poetry. I personally use poetry to express my feelings - as I am quite an emotional person. It's not like I sit down strictly to write poetry. What happens is that I get such an immense feeling bubbling up inside and then I write in my journal. I find that the words naturally flow out this way. I don't have to even think much. It's my way of self-expression, I suppose. I do not write poems often, but when I do, they mean a lot to me and hold some significance or importance. Please enjoy the poems which are presented on this page. Also, I'd ask that you please respect my work by not copying them in any way. Do you have a poem that you'd like to submit? Send it to me for consideration. You can find my e-mail address on the Contact Me subpage. - Mary Shaw - P.S. Newer poems are added towards the top of this page.

Punish My Heart and I'm Gone

Written By Mary Shaw

I lurk beneath your guilt which is desire
Shrewdness can't hide who you've become to me
You manipulate insecurities
You are the dark shadow of your own mind
Yet you easily disguise displeasure
And still trick me with your deceptive smiles
What are you hiding that I cannot know
My love runs pure but yours is laced with hurt
That severs the lives you take for granted
I enter with an open mind and heart
And I'm leaving with them; goodbye to you

Mental Distortion

Written By Mary Shaw

Take all your lies and trash them
Among your rigidity and sore heart
Time won't be wasted on superficial
And calculated actions that rob me of truth
I won't secumb to the games you play
Throw away phoney ideals
You'll never make me reside with desperation
I'm strong enough to see through vacant expressions
And the mental distortion used to twist words
Quit it because I don't fall easily

Polar Intentions

Written By Mary Shaw

Thought I'd let you see me from inside
Peer into the depths of my soul
But I didn't know you'd make me vulnerable
And I didn't know you were scheming
To try to bring me down

I held out my hands for love and reassurance
Holding onto the one person I trusted
But I didn't expect the lashes of pain
And I didn't know that made you smile
Knowing that it could bring me down

I looked towards you for intelligence
Soaking in your wit and eloquence
But I didn't know you were deceptive
And I didn't know you made black, blue
Confusing me and bringing me down

I listened for your apology
Waiting to hear something that wouldn't come
But you didn't know I left you
And you didn't know my strength
Learning from the past to raise me up

I laughed at the thought of you
Realizing I never really knew you
But you didn't know I tried
And you didn't know of my persistance
Trying to bring you up

Reflect My Soul

Written By Mary Shaw

The majestic windows of life are a cascading dream
Full of adventure, challenge and things unseen
At every turn presents love, happiness and delight
We miss it sometimes. God please give us the sight

To capture the essense of God's innate good
Keep quiet and listen, if only you would
A treasure of spirit, strength and love
Is emitted from the one God who is seated above

With compassion in your heart, you will never be alone
Without it, we are hollow, all made out of stone
Do not get discouraged, but seek and you shall find
The capability of love which can enter your mind

The Holy Spirit works through each of us here
Flooding the soul with Christ's love, which is so dear
Let us pass it on and turn not away
For then will the harmony flourish and stay

It all starts with a little step, it all takes time
Happiness is free, it won't cost you a dime
The beauty of it is that the more you give
The more fully alive and joyous shall you live

So when you are depressed and don't see the light
Say a prayer from your heart and you will see right
That you will be filled with lustre and a glow
And God will smile down as he sees you below

His angels in Heaven will play music from the heart
The sun will shine, the clouds shall part
The rays of light warm your graced face
Covering the ground, the earth, all over the place

Bringing new beginnings of hope and grandeur
Through the blessed clouds of Heaven, we shall meander
Floating with the angels we soar towards the sky
Allowing each breath to soak in as we pass on by

Ahh! The wonders of nature are of beauty so rare
Would you give it up? Would you even dare?
Now you know that life is worth living, that is true
But to face your dark conflicts is something you must do

Forget all the hurt, the anger and grief
If you feel it in your heart, Lord make it brief
Smile at every chance and know that God is near
So be positive, joyous, for with Him, you shall not fear

Life is a struggle, that I will not deny
To say that it is easy would be an underlying lie
What I do know is that God can fill our soul
We just need to love, this was our destined role

* Dedication * I would like to dedicate this poem to my dear kindred spirit, Carl Vance. Cheer up and remember that someone cares about you! (SMILE) I wrote this poem while I was in my Algebra & Geometry class...I found that class to be rather dull and boring, so I whipped out my pen and started writing away.

Long to Feel Your Touch

Written By Mary Shaw

Close, yet distant. Mysterious and rare.
We are so similiar. We'd make a good pair.

Your softness and warmth put a smile on my face.
A spot in my heart has your name in its place.

When I think about you, I look up to the sky.
God must've sent you, for you came from on high.

I so often feel your loving presence is with me.
I know that you love me for whatever I may be.

Hold my hand darling, let's go into the portal of time.
I'll hold you forever close. I love you, you're mine.

I'll cherish you for as long as I live.
Of the most precious things in life, to you, I will give.

Under Your Spell

Written By Mary Shaw

You sweet talk me, you whisper in my ear.
You tell me that you love me for all to hear.

You are strong in spirit, soul and mind.
You are original, unique, truly one of your kind.

I am so blessed to know a person like you.
A person who's sensitive, honest and true.

The love which we share shall never be taken.
Our promises, our trust won't ever be foresaken.

Remember the first day that we met?
Do I remember? How could I forget?

You swept me off my feet; you were like a dream.
You gave me inspiration, you were my light, my beam.

I appreciate you for just being you,
For all that you've done and for what you can do.

Now that we've been together arm in arm,
I now feel protected, there will be no harm.

I know that I will love you now and forever,
Even in spirit, we shall always be together.

The Key to My Heart

Written By Mary Shaw

My heart is now opened...filled with the love of life.
Since I've met you, I have not known strife
You've taught me the most important things of all...
Be original, be yourself and stand up tall.

You constantly give me strength I never knew I had.
And to think that only moments ago, I was weary and sad.
You are the purest, most enchanting angel I've seen.
You saw me as a person, not as being short or being lean.

You unlocked my heart...You peered into my soul...
You gave me inspiration and helped me reach my goal.
Your wisdom radiates from you in a most alluring way.
Seeing your gorgeous face just about makes my day!

Sometimes I wonder how destiny brought us together.
When I look back, it seems like I've known you forever!
You were always there when I shed a single tear...
When I faced my nightmare--faced my fear.

When I blew out seventeen candles on my birthday cake...
And even in the summer while swimming in the lake.
You are my soulmate, my mentor and my love.
Compared to all others, you rise easily above!

Friendship

Written By Mary Shaw & Anna Rytel

Whenever you are feeling down
Or feeling sad and blue,
You know you can depend on friends
To bring you up in colours true.

If you need someone to talk to,
You can look toward a friend.
They'll whip you up a pick-you-upper
And set your soul amend.

A friend will always trust you,
If you share that trust.
If you feel you need a companion,
Then be a friend! You must!
