I am a television writer and producer in New York City. An old friend and former colleague named Terry Benes is the namesake of Elaine Benes. Terry used to date Larry David here in NYC years ago and one day she was standing in line at a bagel shop and he walked in. They hadn't seen each other in a long time. During the chat he mentioned that he was creating and writing a show and was going to use "Benes" as the last name of the Elaine character. He asked Terry if she minded and of course Terry had no problem with it. Terry made me promise years ago never to reveal this fact because she couldn't be bothered telling people the story. Well..I'm breaking the promise. I stumbled upon this website and thought finally the truth should come out!!!! It's funny because Terry Benes has long, curly hair just like Julia Louis Dreyfus. A perfect coincidence! - Renee in Manhattan
